Hello, I'm Annie!
I'm mostly a traditional artist but I'm working on improving my digital art skills. I post most of my art WIPs on this tumblr. I'll be studying animation/illustration in Fall 2012 and I'm super excited! :)
Feel free to follow me or ask me questions! I'm open anytime for a conversation about art!

Bendy Girl, for lack of a better name. I’m still debating if I should give her hands. Inspired by Amanda Garretson. Messing around with vectors in PS!

Here’s a colored speed paint of the sketch I posted earlier. That was fun :)

A Sphinx! Quick sketch. Messing around with techniques and still having a tough time transitioning from traditional to digital.
I also went to Fanime yesterday :D And I’ll be going to San Diego Comic Con in July! Super excited!
DISCLAIMER: I was not paid to write this review.
Additional apologies for the size dimension mistake in the graphic above and below: it’s 10x6.25”, not 10x6.5”.
As many of you have seen the hype for the Monoprice tablets going around on Tumblr not too long ago, I was also extremely intrigued and purchased the widescreen 10x6.5” tablet with hotkeys for myself at an amazing price of $49.60 plus shipping. The tablet itself arrived within two days and I was eager to try it out. For reference, I run Windows 7 on a PC with Photoshop CS4 and occasionally work in Paint Tool SAI.
You might have seen me asking about the monoprice tablet before. Finni wrote an excellent in depth review of it, and you should definitely read it if you’re considering getting a new tablet!

1. What is the central idea of your concentration?
My central idea is to express modern and traditional Asian aesthetics and culture through representation of Koi. Koi history dates back to 20 million years ago in China and since then, they have become widely known for their beauty and are commonly associated with Asia. With depictions of these marvelous creatures, I honor my Asian heritage and the powerful history and culture that is a prominent power and influence upon my life.
2. How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea?
(Order is a little bit different here, I tweaked the image order in my actual submitted portfolio)
Each of my pieces contains entwined messages of Asian culture, history, stories, and aesthetics. #1 is my first initial representation of Asian history and culture; and also the only black and white piece. #2 and #3 both tell stories; 1000 Origami Cranes and Dragons’ Gate respectively. In #3 and above, I began to emphasize the revered “kohaku” (highly treasured red and white Koi coloring). I also played with traditional Asian culture such as the art of ribbon dancing in (#5), the combined concentration of meditation and martial arts (#6), New Year celebrations and dragon dancing (#7), Chinese opera (#10), and fish scooping at festivals (#11). In the latter pieces I began to experiment with colors and realized hues of blue positively emphasized and sharpened shapes and contours; it also accurately portrays the fluidity of water (3, 6, 8, and 9) and complements the textures in the pieces (5, 8, and 9). Also visible in my pieces are a prominent line of action, and with that movement I discovered selections of negative space that helped draw attention to my subject. By combining powerful movements and flowing colors I find that I am immensely successful in pursuing serene, yet powerful scenes to aid in my depiction of Asian history and culture.
